Many of you are wondering where to camp near Lake Montbel and if wild camping is permitted. We provide answers in this article.
Is wild camping allowed by Lake Montbel?
Can I pitch a tent by the lake? On the internet, it is difficult to find regulations on wild camping at Lake Montbel.
We found more information in a brochure distributed by the Ariège Fishing Federation. Here is what it says:
Article 2: Fire is not allowed (stoves are allowed).
Article 6: Only igloo tents (or bivvy), maximum 2-person size, are allowed, limited to 2 tents per station, any other tent will be considered wild camping.
If you visit in the summer, you may see some fishermen camping on the shore or the island in the middle of the lake. But rarely families or groups of friends. It is also important to know that you cannot spend the night in a motor home at Lake Montbel, especially during the 3 months of summer.

This is the time it takes to get from our campsite to Lake Montbel.
Le Roc del Rey is perched on a hill at the edge of the small village of Belloc. An ideal place to recharge your batteries, far from the hustle and bustle of the lake's water sports centre, with shaded pitches and unique accommodations.
To spend some time with friends, or if you just don’t want to cook, head to the campsite snack bar and have a drink and a pizza.
If you want to have good time with your family or friends, take advantage of the swimming pool, ping-pong table or the many hikes accessible from the campsite.
Our favorite activities at Lake Montbel
The lake is very large, but there are only 3 ways to access the shoreline by road:
- The Léran water sports centre, where there is a sand beach (5.7 km from the campsite to the Léran side of Lake Montbel)
- Pebble beach Montbel side, 15 km
- The dam, 6.5 km
At the closest water sports centre to Le Roc Del Rey, you can rent an electric boat or pedal boat go kayaking or canoeing, or take on the ropes course. Hiking fans will love the hike around the lake (16 km).
